THE GOD PARTICLE!!

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC)
LHC is a gigantic particle accelerator used by physicists to study the smallest fundamental particles in nature. It is presently the most powerful machine on our planet. Two beams of subatomic particles called 'hadrons' – either protons or lead ions – travel in opposite directions inside the circular accelerator, gaining energy with every lap. The LHC was activated in 2008. Since then, it has been increasing its intensity of the beams. The main works for which LHC aims and which made it famous are the possibility for creating dark matter and the discovery for the elusive Higgs Boson.
This Higgs Boson is claimed to be the 'GOD PARTICLE' by the media. This particle could be the key to a lot of unexplained questions about our universe. The possible discovery of the Higgs Boson can bring a tsunami in the world of physics and can even shake its very foundations. But, till now there is no solid proof of its discovery. Actually a Higgs boson is a hypothetical massive elementary particle predicted to exist by the Standard Model of particle physics. The existence of the particle is postulated as a means of resolving inconsistencies in current theoretical physics. If it exists, it is of a class of particles known as scalar bosons. Bosons have integer spin and scalar bosons have spin zero. The LHC is trying to confirm the existence of this particle by experimentation. Recently, a leaked memo from four scientists at the LHC posted on the Internet, stating that the hunt for the elusive Higgs may be over. This might be just a rumour, because till now CERN has not officially stated its presence. We can just say that discovering this particle would bring about a revolution in our life and we will be a step closer to understand our Universe!!.

Here is a video in which famous theoretical physicist Michio Kaku speaks on the God Particle.

  1. Ah This was my favorite topic...

discussed a lot with friends when that happened.

I went to flashback while reading about this. One interesting event suddenly came in my mind.
You wont believe that this LHC thing had a major impact on our school authority as well. There was rumor in news channels that If anything fails there wud be a big bang and everything will be destroyed. Our School authority took it seriously and it gave us a half day holiday on that day so that if anything happens the school wont be responsible. lol...

  2. Hey much similar kinda stuff happened even in my school. We had our History test and 'twas postponed due to this LHC thing. That was a relief. Thanks LHC!!.
